Spent Mushroom Compost (SMC) is a rich mixture of rotted farm manure and composted agricultural straw. An efferent soil conditioner that offers great value when improving the quality and nutrient value of soil when added.
Steam sterilised Mushroom Compost makes an ideal soil improver and valuable mulching product. When used as a soil improver (mixed with topsoil) it helps to establish trees and shrubs, plant beds or vegetable gardens. The compost will improve soil structure, and water retention and increase the soil nutrient reserves. This will encourage root growth and help your plants to withstand stresses. like drought, insects and disease.
As a mulching product, it will help to conserve soil moisture and suppress those pesky weeds. This will reduce your watering requirement and improve drought tolerance. If you have heavy clay or sandy soil, this can be particularly beneficial.
Bagged in handy 75ltr (approx.) bags and the perfect option if small quantity sought, or if need to carry the bags through the house, over any walls.
The compost ingredients are “hot composted” to produce a sterile substrate for growing mushrooms. Composting takes less than a month, followed by the mushroom-growing period of 20-25 days. After that mycelia find less food, mushroom growth decreases, and the compost is ‘spent’ for mushrooms, but highly suitable for gardening.
Steam sterilised upon removal from the farm ensures the Spent Mushroom Compost (SMC) is free from mushroom spores and weeds. Landscaping professionals value its rich composition and use mushroom compost as a general mulch, spreading a 5cm layer on flower beds, herbaceous and shrub borders and around young trees and specimen shrubs.

Available online in pallets of 75-litre bags (from 10 bags to 40 bags per pallet), delivered anywhere across the mainland UK. If you have a suitable vehicle you can also collect the bags from our yard.
